Suan Rot Fai

Suan Rot Fai (Railway Park) is located near Chatujak in the heart of Bangkok. Probably the best spot for city birding

in Bangkok, a must for those with limited travel time whilst staying in the capital. 

The GPS location is 13.815666, 100.552378, but just about any taxi driver will know it's location ( In Thai, สวนวชิรเบญจทัศ ) or alternatively take the Skytrain to Morchit station.

Suan Rot Fai-Emerald Cuckoo.

The wooded copse area near the car park entrance is a good spot to look out for the Emerald Cuckoo. Although this area is quite small, it can also hold some great birds including; Orange-headed Thrush. Other birds seen here include Northern Boobok, White-rumped shama, White-throated Rock-thrush and Coppersmith Barbets.

Suan Rot Fai-Stork-Billed Kingfisher.

Along the canal is a good spot for various kingfishers amongst other species. Stork-billed, Black-capped, Common, White-throated and even Ruddy and Black-backed Kingfishers have been observed here.

Suan Rot Fai-Northern Bobook.

Around the bushes area Siberian Rubythroats and Siberian Blue Robins along with other visiting migrants have been seen in the winter months. The Butterfly garden has been known to host Hodgson's Hawk-cuckoo and Eye-browed Thrush. In 2015, Thailand's first Hartert's Leaf Warbler was spotted here.

Suan Rot Fai-Plaintive Cuckoo.

The area around the nature walkway has turned up some excellent birds in the past including Yellow-rumped, Narcissus and Mugimaki Flycatchers and Collared Scops Owl. Blue-winged, Hooded and even Fairy Pittas have been seen at this park.
