Khao Sok National Park

Khao Sok National Park is located in Surat province. From Bangkok drive to Surat Thani and take highway 401 to Takua Pa. The park entrance is at Km 109 on the right.Because this park is easy to get to it attracts a lot of tourists, so try to pick a quiet time if possible. The rainy season begins in April to December, so best time to visit is January to mid April.

Birding here mainly on consists of 2 trails, but if one takes their time some fabulous birds can be found.

Trail 1

This trails tends to get a little overgrown and dense at certain times of the year, so locating and photographing birds can be a little difficult. The last time I visited though, the early morng chorus certainly proved there were many birds about. This is probably the best trail to find or at least hear the Great Argus.

Trail 2

This trail is certainly the easier and better kept of the two, plus birding here is far more productive. The beginning of the trail is where the

Rufous-collared Kingfisher can often be found. A little further along is a good spot to find the Banded Kingfisher. Bamboo Woodpeckers and Rufous Piculets can be found around this area too. Where the stream crosses the road at the little bridge Blue-banded Kingfishers have been reported. Chestnut-naped Forktails, White-crowned Forktails, Crested Jays and Blue-banded Kingfishers re also often seen towards the end of the trail
